Eighty-two per cent of University of Winchester research submitted to the REF was considered to be of quality that is 'recognised internationally' or better in terms of originality, significance and rigour. The overall profile of seven out of eight units included research of 'world-leading' (4*) quality.

The REF assesses the quality and impact of research submitted by UK universities across all disciplines. The results provide benchmarks and public information about the research performance of universities, and will be used to allocate around £2 billion per year in research funding to universities.

Housing services

At the University of Winchester we realise that where you live is an important factor in deciding where to study.

Our aim is to help you through the process of securing good quality housing for the duration of your course, by offering University managed accommodation and providing information and advice on accommodation with us and in the Winchester Community.

The University guarantees on campus accommodation or off campus University Managed Housing (UMH), to all first year fulltime undergraduate students who hold Winchester as their firm first choice University (via UCAS) and apply for accommodation by published guarantee dates.

Library services

The Martial Rose Library welcomes members of the public, staff, students and researchers from other institutions and anyone wishing to use the Sybil Campbell and Thorold and Lyttelton Collections.

ICT services

Winchester hosts over 350 networked PCs located in the Library, the Kenneth Kettle open access building, the Learning Café situated in the University Centre, Medecroft and at the Winchester Business School at the West Downs campus. We also have a number of computer suites for teaching.

All campus accommodation has internet access (wired and wireless).

King Alfred Campus

  • Student life is centred on our King Alfred Campus within walking distance of the historic cathedral city of Winchester. In recent years, the King Alfred campus has undergone much change to enhance its facilities.
West Downs
  • West Downs is a short walk away from the centre of the King Alfred Campus. It is the home of our self-caterinccommodation, the West Downs Student Village,and the West Downs Centre, which is where the University's Winchester Business School is based.
