University Ranking
Student services
At Mary Immaculate College, we aim to give students a very positive experience but college life can also bring challenges, both personal and academic. MIC offers a range of holistic supports designed to help students if and when they may need them. Some of these include an Access and Disabilities Office, Academic Learning Centre, Chaplaincy, Medical Centre, Counselling Service and ICT Support and of course, the Students’ Union, MISU. There is also a dedicated Director of Student Life, who aims to enhance your experience while you are part of the MIC community.
Housing services
For the majority of students, going to College is their first time living away from home and the range of options can seem overwhelming, especially when you are not familiar with your surroundings. Students will find comfortable and welcoming low-cost accommodation within very close proximity to MIC. There are a variety of options too, including on-campus, self-catering and off-campus, self-catering student accommodation. The average cost for these options is €2,450 per semester. Students may also rent private accommodation in the neighbourhoods around MIC, which may be even more affordable. As a city campus, no city neighbourhood is outside walking distance!
Library services
The libraries at the MIC Limerick and Thurles campuses are a hive of activity during the academic year with students studying, researching and using the multiple resources available to them. Library staff members provide training throughout the year and are on hand at all times to assist with borrowing and other queries.
ICT services
ICT Services has a service remit to provision, maintain and support appropriate ICT hardware and software systems to enable students and to support their journey through third level. There is physical support in the Computer Labs for any issues that may arise and there are a variety of online learning resources in place to enhance the learning experience.
Medical services
The Medical Centre at MIC provides a triage service for students on-campus, offering a private and confidential service on weekdays during term time. Advice is provided for students who need medical advice outside term time. MIC also provides a professional, on-campus Counselling Service available to all students, free of charge.
Campus life
Located a short walk from the social and cultural buzz of Limerick City centre, MIC Limerick’s leafy 25-acre campus combines architecture from past and present that makes it truly unique. The essential facilities for lectures, study and recreation are all here but its compact size and friendly atmosphere ensures that students have ‘a home away from home’. Superb modern facilities are found all over the College including state-of-the art lecture and tutorial spaces, computer labs and simulated classrooms. The 510-seat professional Lime Tree Theatre venue plays host to regular local, national and international arts and cultural events and the award winning multi-purpose gymnasium and sports complex, “Tailteann”.
Sports facilities
MIC's sports complex, the multi-purpose “Tailteann” gymnasium was opened for students in 2007 and won the award for ‘Best Leisure Building’ at the 2008 Royal Irish Architecture Awards. Perched on the side of a full-size GAA pitch, the building houses three gyms (the largest of which is 8,000 square feet and has retractable bleacher-style seating), a well-equipped weights room, changing rooms and table tennis facilities.
The GAA pitch includes an Astroturf running track around it and an Astroturf tennis/five-a-side soccer court on its far side. Across from the playing field, there is also a floodlit training pitch. There are numerous College sports teams training and playing regularly here.
Student clubs
Enriching the whole person is part of the mission of Mary Immaculate College and students are encouraged to involve themselves in extracurricular activities to get a good balance between college work and recreational time. Mary Immaculate Students' Union (MISU) offers a broad selection of ‘clubs and socs’ to join, spanning the arts, culture, entertainment, education, sports, welfare and charity. Mary Immaculate College and the MISU take great pride in the clubs & societies available to students. Any MIC student can coordinate with the Students’ Union to set up a new club or society, but there is a variety already; see a full list of clubs and societies below.
All qualifications from MIC are fully recognised internationally, through the Irish National Framework of Qualifications and the European Credit Transfer System. An academic linkage is established between Mary Immaculate College and the University of Limerick. This linkage provides for the academic accreditation, by the University of Limerick, of all university-level (NFQ Levels 6-10) programmes at MIC.
