History
The Université Saint-Louis - Bruxelles, began life in 1858 as a Philosophy Department in the Institut Saint-Louis. This department was set up to offer courses that prepared prospective law students for the ‘candidature’ exam, a pre-requisite for law degrees at the time, and which were then based on the study of philosophy and literature.
Education
Université Saint-Louis - Bruxelles will provide you with the basic training, as well as a certain level of specialisation in your chosen field. At the same time, we will develop your faculty for critical reasoning; a faculty which is, by definition, the very hallmark of a university education.
Université Saint-Louis - Bruxelles boasts 4 Faculties spanning the spectrum of the human and social sciences and an Institute for European Studies. Together, they offer a broad range of Bachelor’s, Master’s and Specialised Master’s, and Doctoral degree programmes, as well as numerous lifelong and executive courses.
Research
University teaching goes hand in hand with a consistent scientific research work, that feeds it and allows it to be continuously updated.
Eighteen research centres are part of USL-B and cover the entire field of Humanities: Economics, Law, Political Sciences, Sociology, Literature, History, Linguistics, Philosophy, etc.

If you are a student and you are looking for a job then the university’s Student and Social Affairs Service (SAES) is the place to go. The SAES centralises job offers and requests and can advise you on Belgian employment legislation.Within the university itself, there are a number of employment opportunities to suit different needs. You could opt for a job with regular hours, within the reprographics service, or in the library, for example.Or you could help out from time to time with administrative work, such as mailing, or work in a student support.

Medical services
- European students should obtain the European Health Insurance Card (blue card). This card proves that its holder possesses up-to-date medical insurance and enables them, in particular, to benefit from reduced health care costs.
