The history of the Faculty of Engineering at The University of Hong Kong dates back to the very foundation of the University in 1911 and the appointment of the first Chair of Engineering in 1912. Before the Second World War, it satisfied Hong Kong’s demand for qualified engineers, and also provided China with first-rate professionals.
Vision: To provide solutions to global challenges and nurture leaders in the use of technology for the benefit of mankind.
The Faculty’s research landscape is wonderfully rich. We have defined four key strategic research areas: Sustainability, Health Technologies, Robotics Technologies and Frontier Technologies. Our concerted efforts of global outreach, a focus on our strengths and core competences, and the promotion of cross-disciplinary collaborations provide us with a solid foundation to sustain and extend the work of discovery.
