In 2010 University Campus Fryslân started to develop academic education and research in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. In 2016 University Campus Fryslân became part of the University of Groningen and changed its name into Campus Fryslân. By offering programmes in 2018 Campus Fryslân officially opened as the eleventh faculty of the University of Groningen.

Our lecturers are inspired researchers who teach small-scale classes, making use of state-of-the art facilities and teaching methods. Campus Fryslân offers a undergraduate programme Global Responsibility & Leadership via University College Fryslân and a master’s programme Sustainable Entrepreneurship. Campus Fryslân collaborates with other the faculties that offer programmes in Leeuwarden. Faculty of Arts offers a master Multilingualism, Faculty of Law offers a master Governance and Law in Digital Society and Faculty of Spatial Science offers Cultural Geography, Tourism Geography and Planning at the Campus Fryslân premises.
The Graduate School of Campus Fryslân aims at interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research with high academic and societal impact potential. We do research to expand inter- and transdisciplinary knowledge of human nature, society and the natural world, relevant on both local and global levels. We provide a unique environment in which leading scholars and promising students collaborate in four research flagships: governance, sustainable economy, health & food, culture, language & technology, with Data Sciences / High Tech Systems & Materials as connecting themes.
We engage with local and global partners in the public and private sectors to foster socialchange with our Living Lab projects and through community outreach. Our bachelor students live on our city campus as we believe that living and learning with students from different backgrounds is a huge enrichment of your university experience. By living on campus, you automatically become part of our community of students and staff who are all committed to making your university experience unforgettable. In the 2nd and 3rd year, there will be some campus accommodation available for students but priority will be given to 1st year students.
Master students can find relatively easy a nice and reasonable priced place to live in Leeuwarden. Of course we will advise how to find a place you can call home.
Our library is opened in the evening for you to study. At the Student Service Desk, there is small library where you can find a copy of the required and recommended literature for the course. You can borrow the resources when you are studying in the Living Lab area or make copies of the parts you want to read at home.
Students have access to computers in the local library, which contain the complete collection of software offered by the university. Furthermore, we offer extensive IT support through the Centre for Information Technology (CIT). The IT support offered by the CIT spans from basic troubleshooting and installation procedures, through IT facilities, to IT support for research activities.
Healthcare is off campus, but we did make agreements with medical organisations to help our students in need. You always need to be registered before you can make an appointment and you probably need to visit in person for an intake. International students need to pay for consultations in cash, you will receive a receipt to use for claiming these costs at your health insurance company.
The campus is located nearby the cite center of Leeuwarden. Each student has his own studio with kitchenette and bathroom. In addition, there is a large common kitchen and living room.
There is a wide range of sport organizations in Leeuwarden. Students get discount and can sport at low costs with a sports pass. See https://studentensportleeuwarden.nl/ for more information.
There are many active student associations in Leeuwarden. Joining an association is a great way to make friends and get to know students studying at other third levelinstitutions.
