Launched originally as a school for kindergarten teachers, Wheelock has leveraged its remarkable faculty to grow substantially the ways it applies Lucy Wheelock's vision and legacy to metropolitan Boston and the world. Since 1888, Wheelock College has been a strong and vibrant college committed to our unique mission of improving the lives of children and families.


Since our founding in 1888, Wheelock has offered our students a superb, cutting-edge education that prepares them to be successful and to make a positive difference in the world. Our undergraduate and graduate courses of study are organized within three schools and their related departments.


The Center for Scholarship and Research encourages, supports, and celebrates faculty scholarship, research, and creative production in light of Wheelock's vision, mission, values, and academic principles.


Career Services is here to support the career development of students and alumni. Through individual appointments, events, workshops and on- and off-campus partnerships, Career Services helps students make meaningful community connections that support: career/graduate school exploration, goal setting and preparation; development of strong networks; and a competitive edge in the job market.

Student services

The following offices and services are some of the most frequently contacted at the College:

Housing services

Rooms are either singles, doubles, triples, or quads, and each room in the residence halls is equipped with the following: a twin bed, a desk with a chair, dresser, blinds on the windows, an overhead light, smoke detectors, closet space (limited), and hook ups for cable TV.

Library services

Library resources include books and journals (in both print and online formats), children's literature, videos and DVDs, and audio visual equipment such as still and video cameras, educational and psychological assessments, and music CDs.

ICT services

The Information Technology (IT) Department oversees all aspects of technology at Wheelock College, including phone service, email, and computer hardware and software.

Medical services

Atrius Health offers numerous primary care medical services. Most of these services are provided to all Wheelock Undergraduate and resident Graduate students at no charge.

Student Life

Campus life

Wheelock's six residence halls—Longwood House, Peabody Hall, Pilgrim House, the Campus Center Student Residence building, Riverway House, and Colchester House—offer unique living environments. They vary in size, types of rooms, designations as co-educational or single-sex halls, and traditions.

Sports facilities

Wheelock College Athletics empowers students to excel athletically and academically. Wildcat athletes strive for athletic success, enhance their academic experience, and are active members of the College community, leaders in the classroom, and competitors on the field.

Student clubs

Wheelock has a vibrant campus with student clubs and activities geared to a variety of interests. If you do not see something here that interests you, we strongly urge you to contact the Student Government Association (SGA) and they can help you start a new club.


They received the comprehensive 10-year reaccreditation from NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges); our Social Work program was reaffirmed by CSWE (Council on Social Work Education); and our Education Programs completed reaccreditation through NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education) and a simultaneous review by the State of Massachusetts affirming Wheelock's ability to offer education programs leading to state licensure.
