Founded as an independent School of Medicine in 1976, St. George’s University opened its doors to students beginning in January 1977. It has evolved into a top center of international education, drawing students and faculty from 140 countries to the Caribbean island of Grenada, in the West Indies.
The University offers medical and veterinary degrees in the Schools of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, and independent and dual graduate degrees in the sciences, public health, and business. Undergraduate degree programs are also available through its School of Arts and Sciences.
The University programs are accredited and approved by many governing authorities. St. George’s is affiliated with educational institutions worldwide, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Ireland.
St. George’s University provides a well-rounded experience for its students, including by offering a wealth of research opportunities on campus. Our unique location and variety of dual degree programs provide unique research opportunities in areas such as medical public health, anthropology, ecology, marine and terrestrial biology, ethics, and more. Additionally, One Health One Medicine, the convergence of human, animal, and ecosystem health, is of particular interest on our unique campus which is home to both a medical and veterinary medical school.
The Office of Career Guidance and Student Development (OCGSD) is staffed by faculty and alumni of St. George’s University School of Medicine and designed to assist medical students in obtaining postgraduate residency. Complete information on examination requirements, clinical rotation time schedules, and obtaining postgraduate training is provided to help students navigate the residency application process.
The OCGSD also advises students on USMLE preparation, counsels students in specialty and residency selection, interview skills, CV preparation, and the residency application process in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other non-US programs.

Student support is at the core of the St. George’s University mission. The University offers a wide range of services that ensure that the University is in partnership with each student during his or her academic journey. In fact, more than 98 percent of students take advantage of the academic and non-academic assistance the University makes available.
The University has completed beautifully designed living space for students. Various living spaces have been created to provide a wide range of accommodation to best suit the needs of our multi-aged and multicultural student community. Most of the residences have been configured as suites—a varying number of bedrooms (single or double), each with its own bathroom, opening into a common kitchen/living area. All residences have air conditioning and internet access.
The Founders Library comprises three levels of the West Wing of the Founders Library Building. The upper level is a 24/7 study area. The second level houses 7 group study room, 1 academic room, 3 computer labs with printing facilities, journal stacks as well as tables and cubicles for student use. The Library seats 300 students.
Both wired and wireless Internet access is available at select locations on campus for students to use with their personal computers. The wireless network “hot spots” require 802.11a/b/g/n compatible equipment. Additional information is available by following the “Office of Information Technology” link. Internet access is also provided in all SGU computer labs.
It is SGU policy that all students maintain adequate health insurance and must confirm existing coverage if they opt to waive out of the SGU sponsored program. All students should view the insurance plan information before making the election to enroll or waive. Students will receive an instructional email with information how to enroll in or waive the plan.
Students begin their academic studies at the stunning True Blue campus, which rises atop a peninsula in the southwest corner of Grenada and is a beautiful combination of Georgian architecture visually enhanced with vivid Caribbean colors. More than 65 buildings spread across the vibrant seaside location. The campus is always expanding to keep up with the latest technologies and to provide students with the best learning environment. Major construction is currently underway on our new dormitory and fitness/group study center.
Sports and recreation are an essential part of St. George’s University and campus life. Students take full advantage of the tropical climate, participating in outdoor activities such as snorkeling, swimming, and scuba diving in their free time. In addition, the Athletics, Sports, and Recreational Department has created a healthy atmosphere for students to exercise their minds and bodies.
St. George’s University student organizations are centered on different areas of student life: cultural, religious, social, academic, professional, and community service. The Office of the Dean of Students, cognizant of the benefits of active student involvement, offers support for over 65 student organizations in Grenada, and for students in clinical rotations. This university has a wonderful climate for learning. It offers numerous scholarships to nationals. It has a structured support system to help dtudents succeed. Lastly, it is highly accredited for the field of medicine.
SGU is such a beautiful campus rich in diversity and culture, as such every moment spent on campus with my colleagues became memories edged in my mind and heart for a lifetime.
