Founded in 1862 by Swedish Lutheran immigrants, the College is well known for its strong science, fine arts, athletics, study abroad, and servant-leadership programs. Gustavus has the distinction of hosting the annual Nobel Conference, which brings the world's greatest minds to campus each October.
The purpose of a Gustavus education is to help its students attain their full potential as persons, to develop in them a capacity and passion for lifelong learning, and to prepare them for fulfilling lives of leadership and service in society.
The classroom experience is an essential, rigorous component of a Gustavus education. In their research with students, Gustavus faculty are able to augment those classroom experiences with opportunities to explore topics outside of the core curriculum, in more depth, and in ways that foster intellectual independence of their students.
Through career planning students gain self-understanding, explore careers, and have opportunity to couple academics with experience. Encouraging personal career responsibility, the Office of Career Development supports all students in their career journeys by providing resources, connections, and communities to make informed transitions through explorations and experiences. Utilizing the Career Interest Cluster model connections are created between a student’s liberal arts education and areas of career interest.
The Global Student Satisfaction Awards empower students across the globe to determine the best universities of 2019. By rating institutions on a scale from 1 to 5, on multiple studies-related questions, we found the top educators in the world.
