Founded by Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, Educational and Social Services Foundation, Istanbul Commerce University accepted students for the first time in year 2001. It is one of the first non-profit private universities of Turkey.
Istanbul Commerce University European Union Application and Research Center is established in May 2004, in order to contribute with an interdisciplinary perspective to the development of the relations between Turkey and the EU, and to inform the public, by developing research and application projects on legal, political, economic and social aspects of Turkey's accession to European Union.

The International Office of Istanbul Commerce University holds the mission of contributing to the internationalization policies of Istanbul Commerce University.
Working within the scope of this mission, it functions with the purposes of developing international partnership and cooperation, increasing the international experiences of academic and administrative staff and students and contributing to the formation of a multi-cultural and inclusive international campus life.
Two libraries at Sütlüce and Küçükyali campuses offer approximately 45,000 printed and 87,000 electronic books, 703 periodicals, 2,858 other materials, and 21 databases serve the students and faculty members of Istanbul Commerce University, and the graduate students and academic staff of other universities.
There are a total of 3 Medical Centers of the University, at Sütlüce, Küçükyali, and Eminönü campuses. Emergency response room, polyclinic, infirmary with 7 beds, biochemistry laboratory, and Psychological Counseling Centers are offered at these medical centers. 1 physician, 5 nurses, 2 laboratory staff and 2 senior psychologists are employed on a full time basis.
Istanbul Commerce University is an important educational institution on a national and global scale, with its student count reaching 7,000 and faculty members exceeding 300 as of year 2014, along with campuses established in Kucukyali and Sutluce.
Istanbul Commerce University also incorporates more than 50 student clubs enabling the students to develop themselves.
