The Vita-Salute San Raffaele University was inaugurated in 1996 with its Psychology course, soon followed by the courses of Medicine, in 1998, and Philosophy, in 2002. Since its establishment, the University has been characterized by a strong integration of teaching and research, in each of its facets: basic, philosophical and social.

Each department is a complex structure including, other than the undergraduate and graduate courses, research centers, doctoral schools and masters.
Scientific research at San Raffaele covers virtually all fields of biomedical research and spawns from a variety of activities that are performed in different Divisions, Institutes and Research Centres.The integration of basic, translational and clinical research aimed at providing the best assistance for our patients is what characterizes the SRSI environment.
International students who plan to spend a study period at Università Vita e Salute San Raffaele can rely on assistance from the International Office. The I.O. provides advising to incoming international students, manages exchange programs, provides information about studying abroad, scholarships and financial aid.
The University has two dedicated residence halls and its students can request a room in them.
It may be difficult to secure an apartment while you are still living abroad, mainly because you may not know the area surrounding San Raffaele or the city of Milan itself so you may not know where to look for apartments. It is also important to see the apartment and meet the people you will eventually be living with or the landlords/ladies before signing the contracts.
Situated on the first floor of the DIBIT building, the library has a large and luminous consultation hall, posts for on-line research and, thanks to the so-called “open shelf” collocation, permits direct access to the material available to every user. There are 40,000 volumes of periodicals and over 400 active subscriptions. The monographic collection amounts to around 6,000 volumes.
The International Office is the referent for international students interested inapplying to the University. It also helps students select their preferred accommodation option and gives general assistance on everyday issues for non-Italian speakers such as choosing and renewing health insurances or applying to the nationalhealth system.

Students may use the sports facilities situated near the University complex at a reduced charge. Free use of the complex is allowed during certain times of the day. Information can be obtained from the Student Office.
