Services

Housing services

Living on campus maximizes students’ opportunities for social, cultural and extracurricular involvement and is positively linked to students’ persistence toward attaining a degree. The University of Maine believes that residence hall living is an educational opportunity that all new students should experience. Living on campus is not required for a new admitted first-year student under any of the following criteria: (1) aged 21 or older; (2) a veteran or transfer student; (3) living with a parent or legal guardian within easy commuting distance (35 miles); (4) exceptional circumstances that do not permit them to meet the requirement.

Library services

Raymond H. Fogler Library at the University of Maine is the largest research library in Maine, with a 150-year history supporting the faculty, students, and staff of the University as well as residents of the State of Maine. The current collection includes approximately 3.6 million print volumes, including government documents, as well as 1.6 million microforms.

ICT services

Using your own wireless router actually degrades the performance of the University’s wireless network called “tempest”:

  • Tempest is most reliable when interference is minimized so no other “rogue” access points (use of personal wireless routers) is essential
  • Unmanaged wireless routers compete for available radio spectrum
  • It is against University policy to deploy your own wireless router

Medical services

The University of Maine requires the submission of official immunization records prior to enrollment.

Student Life

Sports facilities

Athletics are kind of a big deal at the University of Maine.  And by “kind of a big deal,” what we’re really saying is it’s perfectly normal to scream your face off while watching hockey with 5,000 of your closest friends at Alfond Arena.  Our 17 Division I varsity teams draw crowds of Black Bear fans to our games.
