About

History

Miami University is one of the oldest public universities in the country, made possible by an ordinance signed by President George Washington in 1795. Chartered in 1809, Miami welcomed its first students in 1824. Miami's reputation grew as quickly as its enrollment, and it became known as the "Yale of the West" for its ambitious liberal arts curriculum.

Education

Miami offers bachelor's degrees in over 120 areas of study. Graduate students choose from more than 60 master's degree and 13 doctoral degree programs. Several associate's degrees as well as bachelor's degrees are offered through study at the regional locations.

Research

Miami student researchers craft their own understanding of the value of inquiry-based learning. Every Miami program has opportunities for students to excel through research experiences. Students learn the research process involves systematic investigations to establish novel facts, solve new or existing problems, explore new creative ideas, or develop new theories.

Miami students do not have to be a science major to participate in undergraduate research. Students get involved in undergraduate research in the math, engineering, business, humanities, education, fine and performing arts, and health, education and social sciences.

College was tough at first. My first year I had no idea what I wanted to do. Second year got better but it wasn’t until working for the university my third year when things really clicked. By the forth year I received a scholarship and now I miss being in school after graduating !
