Mälardalen University was founded in 1977 and has campuses in Västerås and Eskilstuna.
In 1999 MDH became the first higher education institution (HEI) in the world to be environmentally certified, and in 2006 the University also became the first in Sweden to be work environment certified.
MDH continues to develop and in 2020 a brand new campus in Eskilstuna was ready.
At MDH you decide who to become. You get the knowledge, the tools and the opportunity to create your future. In total we offer more than 1 000 courses and 56 programmes in design and communication, economics, health, teacher education, classical music and engineering.
The campuses are modern and so are the teaching methods. Collaboration is a skill highly attractive in the professional life, and you get to practice that throughout your study.
MDH’s research leads to necessary knowledge and development – for Swedish industry and welfare, but also to solve some of the global challenges. The greatest part of research is conducted in cooperation with the private and the public sectors.

MDH’s students are attractive in the labor market. According to the University Chancellor's Office, 86 percent of MDH’s students get jobs in their field one year after graduation. With a degree from a Swedish university you will be equipped with both the theoretical knowledge and in many cases also practical skills. Mälardalen University collaborates with housing agencies to make it easier for our students to find accommodation. There are rooms with shared or private facilities, and various sizes of student apartments. Most of the student housing for international students are furnished, because although a certain very large furniture company is conveniently located in town, we know that you have other things to take care of when you arrive, rather than to buy furniture.
The University Library offers a lot of services to students. You can book a librarian to help you search for articles in our extensive databases, take part in classes regarding study technique, referencing etc.
Wi-Fi everywhere on campus. Computers offered in the library, computer rooms and in some group rooms. Extensive printer access.

The Student Health Care offers counselling and support. For medical care students are referred to the general health care, which is easy accessible.
Mälardalen University has two campuses, one in Västerås and one in Eskilstuna. Both campuses consist of buildings kept together, and should you need to go to the other campus there if a free bus service on weekdays for students and staff.
On both campuses you can find restaurants, cafés, student services such as the Student Centre, library etc.
Both are located in the respective city centers, and 5-15 minutes walk from the central stations.
The sports associations at Mälardalen University offer various kinds of sports, dance and yoga classes etc. There are also plenty of fitness club, public baths, and other sports facilities around the towns, plus that nature is close by and always open for a power walk, bike ride or some hiking. In the winter you can try ice-skating on Lake Mälaren, the lake separating the two campus cities. In Västerås there is even a small facility for downhill skiing.
There are programme associations for the various subjects and programmes at the University, as well as associations for sports, computers, theatre, board games, hiking, knitting and much more. Everyone is welcome to join. If you as a student want to start your own association you are encouraged to do so.
MDH is one of Sweden’s largest high education institutes, with 16 000 students enrolled in Business, Health, Engineering and Education. MDH offer research within all areas of education, but financial engineering program is highly recommended.
The university has a great system it organizes the course to work on real problems with real partners Swedish local and international companies (Volvo ABB, MTM…ECT), This way the students get academic and professional experience, this is noticed in all programs. Some of the courses are designed to be taught in workshops, so we get to use the concepts that we learned about....
