Overview

Theatre Arts Fundamentals

Four new progressive interdisciplinary options in:

  • Applied Theatre and Social Entrepreneurship
  • Applied Theatre and Business Entrepreneurship
  • Physical Theatre
  • Film Studies

P-12 Drama/Theatre Licensure in collaboration with the Lebron James Family Foundation College of Education

Hands-on Experience

The UA Theatre Program offers an array of hands-on learning experiences:
  • Three faculty or guest artist directed productions each year
  • Multiple opportunities for student-generated creative work, service-learning partnerships, and internships or apprenticeships
  • Summer study abroad program in Italy with Akron’s internationally acclaimed New World Performance Laboratory
  • On-campus productions staged in:
  • Sandefur Theatre (flexible black box facility)
  • Varian Studio (flexible classroom and studio space)
  • Daum Theatre (220-seat proscenium theatre)
  • Production facilities include a scene shop, costume shop, makeup studio and computer/design lab.

Degrees and Preparation

A degree obtained in the Theatre Arts program of The University of Akron offers preparation for careers in performance, production/design, education, business, or social services.

The newly designed UA Theatre Arts degree puts today’s student on the forefront of creating opportunities for theatre to stimulate change and improve the quality of life in our communities — hands on.
