The Liberal Arts program offered by Colorado State University is a degree program combining the humanities, the arts, languages and literature, and social sciences so as to foster interdisciplinary knowledge, core career competencies, personal development, professional excellence, interpersonal confidence and expertise, and a deeper understanding of the complex world in which we live.


The Liberal Arts program offered by Colorado State University is a program of study for students with broad interests that cross disciplinary boundaries. Students in this major develop broad-based understandings of the human condition, study various cultures and cultural artifacts, and develop an appreciation for the variety and breadth of human knowledge. Students pursue a concentration either in the arts and humanities or in the social sciences, or some combination of the three.

Our program mission is to help students become critical thinkers, confident individuals, capable professionals, and committed citizens with a responsibility for ethical involvement in the larger human and global community.

Graduates in Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts apply their education in a wide variety of careers and/or academic professions, including public policy, politics, healthcare, artistic production, mass media, engineering, law, city planning, business, information systems, international business, journalism, publishing, education, sales and marketing, management and administration, government, communications, museum work, entertainment, foreign service, and many others. Many continue on to graduate or professional schools for more specialized study. To enhance their career, academic or professional opportunities, majors are encouraged to participate in paid or volunteer work or internship opportunities.

                              The TOEFL®PBT is administered in a paper format and measures your ability to use and understand English in a classroom setting at the college or university level.                               PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. Delivered and marked by computer, it reports on a scale between 10 and 90.

                            Academic Requirements

                            You need the following GPA score:

                            Required score: 3.4

                            Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3.4 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

                            The required GPA score for the international students is 3.5.

                            Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

                            General Requirements

                            • If you are applying as a freshman, you may apply use the Common Application or the CSU Application. 
                            • Applying to CSU requires a $50 application fee payable by Visa or MasterCard.
                            • Submit only your most recent high school transcript. We’ll ask for additional transcripts only if necessary.
                            • ACT or SAT results.
                            • A personal statement is required from all freshman applicants.
                            • We require one counselor OR teacher recommendation. Additional recommendations are optional.
