Criminology and Social Policy

Overview

This Criminology and Social Policy programme from Cardiff University combines Criminology, focusing on criminalisation, victimisation and social responses to crime and disorder, with Social Policy, studying how societies respond to human need and seek to promote the wellbeing of their members.

Teaching draws on a range of social science perspectives and offers you the chance to explore sociological and political attitudes to crime and its control, along with debates on the goals of social policy: how do we decide what human needs are and whose responsibility is it to meet human needs.

Placements

There are a number of placement or study abroad opportunities associated with this Programme. Students have the option of studying abroad or spending a year on placement in year 3, extending their studies to a four year programme. The application process for spending a year abroad or on placement will take place at the start of your second year of studies. These opportunities may be partly conditional upon achieving certain minimum academic results in other modules.
