With the benefit of small class sizes, students receive specialized course work in ecology, ecosystem science, social science, communication skills, policy analysis, and the management of surface water resources. Graduates of the Natural Resources - Watershed Hydrology & Management Emphasis program from University of Arizona are qualified for rewarding careers in integrated land management, hydrology, the environment, or water resources. Employers include federal or state agencies (e.g., U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service) municipal water districts, private consulting firms, and conservation organizations (e.g., Nature Conservancy).
All programs in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment emphasize applications of ecological principles for conservation and management of plant, animal, and water resources at local and global scales, and solutions to negative impacts of human activity. Students complete courses that provide a foundation in natural resource science, conservation, and management, and elective courses that allow students to explore areas of interest.
