The University of Bristol is a respected and successful centre for the study of modern languages and cultures.

Spanish is the second most widely spoken European language in the world and is the second language of the USA, and Germany remains central to the European economy. There is high demand for advanced fluency in these languages and familiarity with the diverse nature of the culture, history, politics and lifestyle of the German- and Spanish-speaking world.

During the German and Spanish program from University of Bristol, in language classes you will develop speaking, listening, reading, writing and translation skills using textbooks, media and internet resources. You will also study literature, history, thought, politics, linguistics and culture, choosing from a wide range of optional units. We have a regular programme of visiting speakers who supplement our regular teaching with specialist talks on their research interests.

    PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. Delivered and marked by computer, it reports on a scale between 10 and 90.

General Requirements

  • A-level Contextual offer: BBB including B in one of the languages to be studied
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma Standard offer: 34 points overall with 17 at Higher Level, including 5 at Higher Level in one of the languages to be studied
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma Contextual offer: 31 points overall with 15 at Higher Level, including 5 at Higher Level in one of the languages to be studied
  • Cambridge Pre-U offer: Requirements for principal subjects are as for A-level, where D1/ D2 is A*, D3 is A, M1/ M2 is B, M3 is C
