Overview

The Early Childhood Education Program at University of Arizona incorporates a full year of field experience including student teaching in pre-k early childhood centers from two year old to pre-kindergarten classrooms, and a full year of field experience including student teaching in the primary grades of kindergarten through third grade.  

Graduates understand children as whole people actively involved in their own learning and the developmentally appropriate practices for these formative years, including lesson planning, assessment, and differentiation of instruction.  Graduates have the ability to leverage the knowledge of children, families and school communities in the classroom.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • Have a 3.00 recalculated grade point average (GPA) (a "B" or better where "A"=4.00) from a secondary school. Please note: GPA recalculation occurs during the admissions evaluation process. 
  • Have three years of high school work. Please note: If you are currently in high school, UA needs to see 9–11 grade work. If you have completed high school then UA needs to see 10–12 grade work. 
  • Have and present a completed high school diploma or certificate.
