Overview

In our technological society, engineering is increasingly important in the global marketplace of business and industry. In fact, since the present and future well-being of the metropolitan Cleveland area is intricately linked with continued industrial growth, educated professionals such as engineers and technologists are in great demand.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineers are responsible for designing machines, engines, automotive components, aeronautical devices, robots, welding devices, and heating/air conditioning and ventilation systems.

Fenn College’s curriculum in Mechanical Engineering prepares students for successful careers in the following occupations: aeronautics, aerospace, power generation, energy conversion and conservation, transportation, manufacturing, machine design, robotics and controls, and technical sales, among others.

In addition to mathematics and science courses, mechanical engineering students take courses such as fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, machine design, vibration, controls, solid modeling, materials science and processing. Technical writing and senior design projects are also offered.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Mechanical Engineering is one of the top ten degrees in demand according to a 2005 National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Job Outlook Survey. Projected growth in all engineering fields is 3-9 percent through 2012. Engineering ranks among the highest paid professional fields.
