About

Neuroscience is the study of the nervous system, from the level of individual genes and proteins that control neural activity to mechanisms that govern complex human behavior. Northwestern University’s undergraduate major in Neuroscience offers courses spanning these diverse topics, as well as interdisciplinary coursework through five Allied Fields.

Overview

Neuroscience students at Northwestern University will be well-prepared for future careers in research, medicine, the biotech and other industries, science journalism, or patent law.

Neuroscience majors choose six units within one Allied Field for interdisciplinary study. Five Allied Field choices are listed below, each with a link to the list of courses that count toward this requirement. It is also possible to petition to add a course to an existing Allied Field or to propose an ad hoc Allied Field, both subject to approval by the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
