Associates in Electrical Technology: Alternative to Traditional Electrician Training

The electrical technology program at Montana State University-Northern is the only program of its kind in Montana. In alliance with the State of Montana Apprenticeship program approved on-the-job (OTJ) hours toward your apprenticeship, graduates of the electrical technology program will be well prepared with the skills necessary to become successful in the versatile field.

  • Take between 66 and 68 total credits of coursework made up of general requirements and a wide variety of electrical courses.
  • Fulfill a major portion of the academic requirements of the electrical apprenticeship program – an electrical technology degree from MSU-N may count for up to 3000 hours of an 8000 hour apprenticeship program.
  • Integrate theory and application of today's electrical materials, technology, and the National Electric Code installation practices in MSU-N's electrical technology program.

Electrical Technology Faculty: Helping Students Achieve Career Training

  • Be inspired by the electrical technology faculty at MSU-Northern, which takes pride in their one-of-a-kind program and is actively involved in the academic lives of their students.
  • Work side-by-side with the Electrical Advisory Board, which consists of prominent electricians engaged in the trade, along with key members of the Montana Department of Labor and Industry Apprenticeship and Training Program, and training officers from the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) and IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers).

  • Electrical Fundamentals – Develop a solid understanding of day-to-day tasks electricians perform including wiring, planning, design, estimating, and working within code requirements in the electrical technology program.
