The radiation science major is designed for students who want to pursue careers or graduate studies in the health sciences such as radiation safety or clinical research, and/or biology. Clinical training is not required for radiation science majors.

About

If you want to work in the medical profession as a radiation therapist, the radiation therapy major will allow you to get practical, hands-on experience in a hospital setting while you earn your degree. Radiation therapy is the careful administration of highly focused forms of radiation to treat cancer and other diseases. Through observation and hands-on experience, students will become part of a team of radiation therapists, as they complete their more than 1,300 hours of clinical rotations.

The Radiation Therapy program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), the national governing body for radiation education programs.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

Students who plan to apply for a spot in the radiation therapy program must have at least sophomore status and have completed appropriate coursework. Students should be aware that the selection process requires an additional application, as well as a clinical shadow, math assessment, writing sample, and an interview with Radiation Therapy Committee members. This interview will take place during the spring semester of each year.
