Eastern Finland is the "export center" of the country, with strong technological companies well-known around the world. Thus the Mechanical Engineering programme of Savonia UAS focuses on educating experts to lead and manage international technology projects. The programme is diverse, making it possible for a young expert to work in fields of both mechanical engineering and industrial management.

The technological know-how focuses on product design and development and manufacturing technology. In addition, the studies concerning industrial management concentrate on project management, marketing, sales, business economics, procurement, supply chains, international business operations and quality management.

An important part of the programme is that students get familiar with operating effectively in a variety of interpersonal networks. Self-development, communication and interpersonal skills, organizational and social as well as international competence and problem-solving skills are essential skills for a mechanical engineer. The graduates of Mechanical Engineering will be skilled international team players.


The Mechanical Engineering programme includes a specialization which is industrial management focusing, in particular, on project management and networks.

In addition to the courses included in the Mechanical Engineering programme, you can choose 15 ECTS from other studies available in Savonia UAS to support your professional development. Also, students have the benefit of an extensive international partner university network when considering their study options. Project works, practical training as well as thesis can be used for steering your professional development to the specialization you are interested in.

As a mechanical engineer (Bachelor of Engineering), you will have a wide range of career opportunities. The studies include a diverse perspective on technology and business management which will give you a good background to work in demanding tasks. Your studies, including practical training, will help you to find your own career path and professional interests.

Mechanical engineers are often employed to positions of experts and managers who are responsible for operational planning and development, and business management duties, e.g. sales of technological products and services.

Mechanical Engineering in Savonia University of Applied Sciences has been accredited by the ENAEE as the first European Union engineering programme in Finland. The accreditation results in EUR-ACE status for the programme and ensures the quality of the programme.

Programme Structure

Basic studies provide a solid foundation for mechanical engineering and guide the students' frame of mind to business and economic thinking in a multicultural environment. Essential skills needed for personal learning, career planning and professional studies are also acquired.

Professional studies provide a good knowledge of industrial processes and basic competences in mechanical engineering, production and logistics. Knowledge and understanding of business processes and business life in society are also covered.

Specialised studies deepen the understanding and practical skills in engineering and applying theories into practical cases. Professional skills in manufacturing and operations, business and project management and integrated product planning are gained.

Internship, thesis and elective studies provide the ultimate application of learned skills into practice and enable networking with local industry during studies.


All Savonia lecturers have at least a master's level degree in the topic they teach and a substantial practical experience in the field. So they are living examples of combining theory and practical skills.

Eligibility to apply for higher education studies can be obtained with:

Tuition fee for bachelor level studies for non EU/EEA students is 5000€ and for master level studies 6000€. A scholarship is available.

The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.


The school is free of charge for students originating from EU/EEA are. For non EU/EEA students the tuition fees are
  • for Bachelor studies 5000 euros per academic year
  • for Master studies 6000 euros per academic year
All non-EU/EEA students of Savonia UAS may apply for a scholarship. In the first academic year the scholarship covers 70% of the tuition fee; in the following academic years the scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee. To qualify for the scholarship after the first academic year, Bachelor students must earn at least 55 credits and Master students 30 credits of studies detailed in their personal study plan per academic year.
