About

The BA Music Production (Hons) degree course from University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) helps you to develop the skills and knowledge required to work within the dynamic area of music production and technology. Innovation is at the core of the course as we encourage you to develop techniques and skills that are new and challenging. Creativity is prioritised and the course content features composition, creative production skills, recording techniques, sequencing, sampling, sound processing and design, music video, video and sonic art and the contextual study of music and research/academic skills.

The strength of the course is evident through its excellent industry connections which have been recognised through accreditation by the JAMES organisation on behalf of the Association of Professional Recording Services (APRS), UK Screen and the Music Producers Guild (MPG).

What Opportunities Will I Have?

Completing this degree can lead to a variety of careers, such as working as a record producer, songwriter, sound designer or performer. One of our international students has had a number one record in Greece and several are working as sound designers/music composers.

One of our graduates was offered work experience by a composer commissioned by Danny Boyle working on the Frankenstein production in the West End; a graduate from our course from 2010 is in a broadcast management role at the BBC; another composes music for iPad games; and we have a graduate who is working in video production for a national sportswear company. We also have a number of graduates working in education both as teachers and technicians.

This course also offers options for study exchanges overseas in Year 2, where you will be fully supported by the School. ERASMUS links for exchange opportunities are being developed with institutions in Europe and USA.
