Overview
The University of Crete Medical School is one of the leading medical schools in Greece and the Balkans, providing innovative research-led medical education since 1984. Committed to internationalization and diversity, the School launches a new International Program in Medicine aimed at educating students to become thoughtful and skillful members of the global medical community.
Key facts
A fundamental element of the International Program in Medicine at University of Crete is the existence of the general prerequisite courses for entering the third cycle and of the special prerequisite courses for starting the corresponding clinical rotations. Mandatory requirements for all clinical clerkships reflect the school’s policy in providing an essential link between foundational medical knowledge and clinical clerkships. In addition, completing the clinical clerkships in Internal Medicine and Surgery before a student starts the other clinical rotations is a necessary condition which structures the students’ clinical clerkship programme on a more solid basis.
Students who will join this program will receive training through a modern curriculum and become part of a school with a long successful tradition in training the future generation of medical doctors. A main advantage of the program is having a small class, which facilitates a personal approach to teaching.
The program accepts 30 students, who will have the opportunity to be taught in the form of lectures, seminars and tutorials, including hands-on work in laboratories during the first years of studies and in the clinic, during clerkships. Having a small group of students, most courses are interactive utilizing problem-based approaches to facilitate clinical thinking and decision making. Personalized training will also be supported through tutorials. In addition, each student will have an academic advisor who will provide guidance throughout the studies. A large number of international visiting faculty, experts in their fields, will participate in teaching, enriching the program.
Student mobility is supported by the program and students who wish to participate in summer internships and exchanges to collaborating universities around the world will be financially supported through scholarships. The collaborating Foundation for Research and Technology, an internationally recognized research center and the best in Greece, being an integral part of the research conducted at the Medical School, offers research opportunities to students.
