Overview
Overview
In combination with transport, tourism is the biggest industry worldwide. Switzerland is a country in which international tourism, both inbound and an outbound, has been a key industry since the 19th century. This long-standing tradition, together with the experience and expertise that go with it, has made the country a favourite destination for international students seeking high-quality education in tourism and hospitality management. Tourism and Hospitality Management is offered at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
What is true for the country as a whole is a way of life in Lucerne. Located in the heart of the Swiss Alps, this city is a hub of international tourism and is considered a role model for many other destinations.
The program in Tourism and Hospitality Management at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is brand new and has been designed to include a wide range of tourism-related topics, such as tour operating, airlines, hotel and hospitality management, wellness, sports and destination management. Students also have the opportunity to acquire a good understanding of product development and product management in tourism, of e-commerce, digital transformation, event management, consumer behaviour, trends and innovation.
Courses enable students to develop professional skills relevant to working in tourism such as communication, sales, negotiations, entrepreneurship and leadership. The programme design has been kept deliberately flexible to allow for studies to be combined with work, or for the integration of internships, or for exchange semesters at one of our international partner universities.
Graduates of our tourism bachelor programme obtain a relevant education, which qualifies them for a wide range of employment opportunities. While popular graduate career paths typically include working in a leading position in the management of destinations or of tourist associations, this is only part of the story: the fact that our graduates‘ expertise in tourism is solidly anchored in the principles of business administration equips them with the prerequisites for exciting employment opportunities in many areas outside tourism.
