Overview
This Art and Design Foundation Studies degree from Loughborough University emphasises the relationship between thinking and making, where cognitive skills are intrinsic to studio-based practice across a range of artistic practices. These range from drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, moving image, installation, and photography to performance practices.
There is a strong focus on the connections between art, culture, and politics – including their relationship with the public sphere, sustainability, environmental aesthetics, and identity in a global community. This enables the development of a variety of transferable skills that can be applied in a whole range of contemporary contexts.
Core practical skills – ranging across traditional and new media, 2D and 3D forms, analogue and digital processes – are developed across an innovative and conceptually challenging curriculum, supported by learning of art history and visual culture. This facilitates an understanding of the diverse contexts for art production and consumption, both within the studio and beyond, fostering a critical engagement with art’s historical, theoretical, cultural, political, social, and ethical dimensions.
