Overview
The Secondary education degree prepares you to teach in secondary settings with eligibility for teaching licensure for grades 6-12 upon completion in your chosen subject area. If you already hold a bachelor’s degree you may be able to fast track your career in teaching by completing the Teaching Secondary Content graduate certificate.
What is Secondary Education?
In your education courses and applied practical experiences you will learn the best practices of teaching middle and high school students while gaining a deep understanding of effective classroom management. You will expand your knowledge in a specific content area by earning a concurrent major and completing coursework in the UW College of Arts and Sciences, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources,or College Engineering and Applied Science.
Starting early in your academic career, you will spend a large portion of your time in classrooms honing your craft. Your experience will culminate when you are paired with an encouraging and supportive mentor teacher in your subject area to complete your student teaching residency. Upon completion of the program, you will be prepared to become a teacher in Wyoming and across the country.
