Bioinformatics connects the skills gap between biology and data science. You won’t just conduct scientific research or run statistical studies in biology, you’ll take data to the next level. You’ll learn how to document, analyze and visualize big sets of biological data.
A bioinformatics career requires a broad set of skills. That’s why our undergraduate program curriculum prepares you to work with all kinds of data in different ways. As the only program of its kind in Missouri, University of Central Missouri’s bachelor’s in Bioinformatics - Computing and Statistics draws from many disciplines. With a Computing and Statistics emphasis, you’ll take courses in biology, chemistry, computer science and more, so that you can approach and understand big sets of data through many lenses.
Program Learning Outcomes
The graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bioinformatics will use the knowledge and skills obtained in the program to:
- Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts
- Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles
- Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline
- Apply computational, mathematical and statistical approaches to analyze biological data
- Integrate informatics including statistical software packages with fundamental biological principles to solve problems
