Overview

The overall aim of the BA (Hons) Criminology and Psychology with Foundation Year from Arden UK enables students to study two well established fields in social sciences.

Both fields are set out to understand the social world which encompasses social values and behaviours.

While Psychology studies human behaviours in general, Criminology focuses on criminal behaviours and social orders in particular.

Key Messages

  • Use psychology to understand what drives people and what may lead them to offend as well as the institutions created to uphold the law
  • Discover what makes criminals tick with this inter-disciplinary criminology and psychology degree covering a range of thought-provoking modules, such as 'Crime, Media, Culture' , 'Forensic Psychology' and 'Crimes of the Powerful'
  • Understand the inner workings of the Criminal Justice System and the part it plays in society
  • Put what you learn into practice and contextualise your studies with opportunities to support our Arden academics and partner organisations as a lecturing/research assistant
  • No exams! Every assessment you do will be a task or skill you will use in your career
  • Innovative assessments – students will be exposed to a variety of different assessments that provide transferrable, employment-based skills. Including the 'role play' participation during roundtable discussions and debates, the creation of podcasts and the creation of videos (using, for example, Adobe Spark).
  • This course is designed with a 'digital first' focus which means students will be using the latest digital methods as well as honing-in on the future of a digital world of crime
  • Aligned to UK’s Ministry of Justice, digital strategy (2025), Arden’s digitally focused degree equips future practitioners with the required digital and critical analytical tools for working across courts, policing, probation, prison, and victims’ services
  • Get your work published and start to build your professional portfolio
  • Criminology and Social Science Research Journal – Ability to contribute to Arden internal journal, as well as having access to it. It is a regular journal that includes academic content around students and academic's work in the area. This helps to foster a research culture within the course and helps students expand their horizon
  • To build a sense of community and branch out from the 'classroom' this course offers criminology and psychology-based visits such as, visits to the courts, police museums, the fire service, and are available to any students but based in UK.
  • Live content – Through your lectures and sessions we'll be applying the latest events and news topics to the principles learnt so you are able to understand how this area is. E.g. a webinar series in criminology (the guest lectures vary from convicted criminals to senior members of the police voice to give a variety of perspectives) and career spotlights and special interest groups in psychology – various groups focused around an area of psychology, led by staff, that aim to give students an insight into
