You will study education and your chosen area of emphasis, spend a semester student teaching, and earn certification to teach that subject in grades 6-12.

    We prepare future science teachers by combining the latest curriculum and teaching practice research, deep study in an area of emphasis, and in-classroom experience. Some courses are held in local science classrooms to enrich your experience.

    Programme Structure

    The BSEd in Science Education helps you develop a strong background in the sciences and science instruction through:

    • Coursework specific to science and science teaching
    • 13 hours of required math and physics courses
    • 15 hours of electives in physics and chemistry
    • 5 hours of general electives

    • A full-time, semester-long student teaching experience at the level of your choice

    Minimum Eligibility Criteria

    • Overall minimum grade point average of 2.5, GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
    • Completion of General Education Core Areas I-V, Area VI courses completed or in-progress
    • Completion of CHEM 1212, CHEM 1212L or CHEM 1312H, CHEM 1312L or MATH 2260, and PHYS 1111-1111L or PHYS 1211-1211L (courses can be in progress) with a minimum grade of "C" (2.0) or higher before entrance to professional course sequence block
    • Grade of "C" or higher in Area VI EDUC/EPSY courses
    • All teacher education candidates must earn a grade of B or higher in the exceptional children course requirements for certification. (SPED 4020, 4030 etc.)
    • Passing score on or exemption of the GACE Program Admissions Assessment (read details about the exam and exemption)
    • Completion of a) Federal and Georgia Constitution and b) U.S. and Georgia History University requirements by the end of the semester of application or enrollment in the professional course sequence
