Overview
What You'll Learn
Your training will explore vocal technique, vocal function, and the basics of vocal anatomy and physiology. You'll craft a technical foundation in vocal production while training as a hybrid vocalist, along with a demonstrable understanding that the best singing is an amalgamation of a freely produced sound and a personal need to communicate. At the Vocal Performance - Contemporary Voice BM program offered at New York University you’ll learn how to communicate through song effectively, working on song analysis and developing an awareness for how the prosody of the language plays a role in popular songwriting and performance. You'll also have opportunities to cross-train in musical theatre or classical voice and participate in a variety of workshops as well as audition for fully staged productions and concerts, performing under the guidance of directors, choreographers, conductors, and designers highly experienced in the music industry. Opportunities are also available to participate in contemporary ensembles.
Career Preparation
You will find here a supportive community of performers who work with you and celebrate your successes. As your terminal degree experience, you’ll perform a fully staged concert. Our program of study will provide you with a solid foundation of healthy vocal technique on which you can build a career in whatever area of voice performance you choose to pursue.
