Overview
Physics with Astrophysics (Hons) Including Research Placement course at University of Bath will give you a strong grounding in physics, along with in-depth specialist knowledge of astrophysics. You’ll learn how to combine evidence from stellar and extragalactic astronomy to build consistent theoretical models of the evolution of galaxies.
Topics covered include exoplanets, galaxies, cosmology, stars and stellar evolution, general relativity and high energy astrophysics. There'll also be opportunities for you to carry out both observational and computational astrophysics projects alongside our astrophysics research group.
Flexibility
You'll study the same units across our Physics, Physics with Astrophysics, and Physics with Theoretical Physics courses in year one, and similar units in year two before specialising in the later years. This gives you the greatest flexibility and makes it possible to change between courses if your interests change once you're at Bath. It also allows you to modify your placement or study year abroad options, or even whether you are on a batchelor’s or master’s programme after you've started.
Master's degree
The MPhys course gives you the opportunity to enhance and deepen your knowledge compared to BSc courses, particularly in topics at the forefront of research. You’ll study master's level units and carry out a major master's level research project, giving you ideal preparation for postgraduate study or a career in research.
Accreditation
Accredited by the Institute of Physics for the purpose of fully meeting the educational requirements for a Chartered Physicist.
