About

There is a great need for people with very good knowledge of English. English is important in working life and a natural feature in the media and in public places. The Bachelor's program in English at Lund University meets this need for a workforce with high and broad competence in English.

Overview

The English at Lund University program is six semesters long (three years). It gives 180 higher education credits and leads to a bachelor's degree in philosophy in English. During at least four of the six semesters, you study English. First, you study three semesters of English in Lund. Then you can place one or two semesters in an English-speaking country, or study a broadening subject in Lund during the same period. The program ends with you writing a degree project in English with a literary or linguistic focus.

At Lund's bachelor's program in English, you meet teachers who are also active researchers. You can choose to specialize in both English with a literary and linguistic focus.

Careers

Some students go directly into working life and work as, for example, informants, administrators, communicators or writers, as well as in the computer game industry. Knowledge of English is needed in most professions. Excellent knowledge of English therefore gives you great advantages in the labor market.

Many who have a bachelor's degree in English study a supplementary education that leads to a vocational degree as a teacher, translator or librarian. Such educations are available in Lund, but also at other universities.

There are also postgraduate programs (master's programs) in linguistics and in literary studies. They provide an in-depth study of literary studies and linguistics, respectively, as well as eligibility for postgraduate education.
