The foundation year on this Painting (including foundation year) (Hons) course at London Metropolitan University will allow you to explore the characteristics of different art disciplines and produce a substantial portfolio of high-quality work, to help you to progress to the subsequent three years of the programme. As such, the foundation year is also preparatory, as it will allow you to build a portfolio of skills and techniques that will be necessary to study at undergraduate level.
You’ll share the foundation year with others studying a degree with a foundation year in our School of Art, Architecture and Design. This will be the perfect opportunity to meet a diverse range of students interested in different art disciplines.
Alongside these students you’ll learn about a range of techniques and formats used across the art and design field. Creative projects in studios will be balanced with lectures and seminars in critical and contextual studies, which will frame creative practices in historical, cultural and conceptual discourse.
Where this course can take you
On graduation you’ll have the knowledge and skills to pursue roles as an artist, curator or consultant in a range of organisations, including cultural institutions, galleries and art consultancy firms.
This bachelor’s degree will also allow you to complete further research or study at postgraduate level.
