Overview

The BA in Quantitative Social Sciences (QSS) at Central European University (CEU) teaches the interdisciplinary skills necessary to extract scientific understanding from societal data and consists of a comprehensive training in computational data analysis and mathematical modeling, as well as core theory and methods from sociology, economics, environmental science and political science.

You will learn how to take advantage of the unprecedented quantity and level of detail of available information on human habits, health, communication, opinions, political and economic behavior in a manner that is built upon quantitative theory and methods, while being directly integrated with the scholarship in the various areas of the social sciences.

EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITIES

In the third year, you’ll have the opportunity to study abroad at one of our partner universities in Europe or in the United States. Options include: Sciences Po in Paris / Bocconi University in Milan / London School of Economics / Stockholm School of Economics / Bard College in New York State / Bard College Berlin

The program is registered in the United States by the New York State Education Department and is subject to accreditation in Austria by the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria.

Programme Structure

The program includes mandatory modules on mathematics, programming and data analysis, and social sciences. 

After completing the mandatory modules, you must choose two of the five specialization tracks:

  • Sociology
  • Economics
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Political Science
  • Data Science
You will be expected to conduct interdisciplinary research as part of your BA thesis and capstone project in your chosen areas of specialization.

Funding

Presidential tuition award

Two outstanding candidates will receive this award for the total value of 5,000 EUR each. The award covers part of the tuition fee throughout the four years of BA studies.

CEU Scholarships for Refugees

This scholarship is available for three admitted BA candidates with refugee status. The scholarship will cover tuition fees throughout the four years of BA studies (up to 7,000 EUR/year from each award), include a monthly stipend of 470 EUR and a monthly stipend of 500 EUR to cover the price of accommodation.

Alumni Scholarship

This scholarship, awarded to one BA student for one academic year, is worth EUR 2,000/year and is paid in monthly installments during the first year of studies.
