Overview
Today’s music producers must be creative, knowledgeable, adaptable and entrepreneurial. And to be able to work confidently with others across professional contexts.
During the Music Production (Hons) programme offered by the University of Hull you’ll gain experience in project management, entrepreneurship and collaboration. All essential to a music production professional. Our assessments focus on practical outcomes. They’ll help you build up a professional portfolio of work for when you graduate. And throughout your degree, we’ll always encourage you to share your work with the wider public.
You’ll understand and adopt the standards expected in the music production industry. As well as how to gain financial and legal control of your craft. And you’ll hone your skills with our expert staff. They have experience of working with the opportunities and challenges of the creative industry. And can help you learn how to navigate and adapt.
And you can tap into our partnerships with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) and Opera North. RPO musicians will hold masterclasses and offer career advice. As well as ensemble coaching, one-to-one tuition and opportunities to get experience at rehearsals and concerts.
Future prospects
You’ll graduate with essential skills for the music industry, plus a professional portfolio of material for your CV. You’ll learn how to communicate confidently, both through your craft and face-to-face. You’ll also have access to our network of professional partners, providing opportunities for live projects, work experience, masterclasses, and more.
Some students set up record labels before they graduate. Others carve out their own careers in the industry. Our graduates go on to become music producers, studio managers, sound engineers, and freelance composers. They also pursue careers in music teaching and journalism.
