Overview

Both your major and your minor include surveys of historical periods and their cultures, which are then supplemented by media specific and period specific courses in Art History and History respectively. 

At this Art History with History BA from New College of the Humanities you’ll learn about painting, ceramics, architecture, and landscapes, alongside broader reflections on the nature of the historical discipline and its applications.

Your qualification

New College of the Humanities’ degrees have been designed and created by the College’s world-class professors and faculty. The courses reflect their areas of expertise and research interests, meaning that they are strongly engaged with the material that they will teach you, and there may be opportunities for students to participate in active research.

In the case of the Art History major and minor, the curriculum was overseen and developed by Dr Melanie Gibson BA (Oxon), MA, PhD (Lond), former Head of Faculty & Senior Lecturer in Art History, Senior Editor for the Gingko Library Art Series, Outreach Director for the British Institute of Persian Studies (BIPS), and Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society.

In the case of the History major and minor, the curriculum is overseen and developed by Dr Lars Kjaer, BA (AU), MPhil, PhD (Cantab), Head of Faculty & Senior Lecturer in Medieval History at NCH London.

A-level

  • AAB. Please note that A-level General Studies, Critical Thinking, Thinking Skills and Global Perspectives are not accepted by NCH as one of your A-levels.
  • Students studying the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) alongside three A Levels may be eligible for an alternative offer.

International Baccalaureate Diploma

  • An overall score of 35 points OR 6, 6, 5 in subjects taken at Higher Level.
  • Please note, the overall score of 35 points includes TOK and the Extended Essay, and students must achieve a pass in the IB Diploma for entry to our courses.

European Baccalaureate

  • 85%

  • AABBB. We do not count Highers and Advanced Highers in the same subject.
