Overview

Throughout the  Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Hons) programme from University of Malta , you are given the mathematical skills required for engineering design and analysis. You are taught how to design and build smarter, and more sustainable technologies, making them more efficient, reliable and affordable with the aim to contribute to society by improving the quality of life especially related to health, comfort and our environment. 

Self-driving electric cars are but one example of what you can achieve as a future Electrical and Electronics Engineers. This profession is at the heart of clean energy production, distribution and usage, sustainable and smart transport, electrification of transport, space technology, bio-medical technology, automation, robotics, autonomous drones, satellite systems, ship navigation, communications, the list is endless. This explains why the demand for Electrical and Electronic Engineers in Malta and worldwide is high and perpetually increasing.

Careers

The engineering profession is a versatile profession, allowing employment opportunities in a wide variety of fields. As a graduate with an Electrical and Electronic Engineering Degree course, you will have broad-based fundamental engineering skills, thereby facilitating the possibility of job mobility across these fields. You will be able to find work amongst various local sectors of employment that include: manufacturing industries, government agencies, ministries, building services, power generation and distribution, hospitals, mobile and fixed telecommunication companies, design and consultancy, local R and D companies, pharmaceutical plants, hotels and hospitality, software development, online gaming, ICT infrastructure, multimedia related companies, embedded systems design studios, education and research institutions and many others. You can also follow the route of entrepreneurship, where you will have the freedom to set-up your own company or work as self-employed consultants.

Other requirements

General requirements

  • Advanced Level passes at Grade C or better in Pure Mathematics and in Physics.
  • Applicants in possession of the Certificate in Engineering Sciences from the University may also be admitted into the course.
  • The Board may also consider applicants in possession of a qualification at MQF Level 5 in an engineering domain, together with passes in the Secondary Education Certificate Examination at Grade 5 or better in English Language, Maltese, Mathematics and Physics, to join the Course. Such applicants shall be required to present with the MQF qualification they submit for entry, a detailed transcript showing their performance during their studies. They shall further be required to attend for an interview to assess whether they have the necessary aptitude to follow the Course with profit.
