Civil Engineering (Hons) programme from University of Dundee is concerned with harnessing the great powers of nature for our use and convenience. Civil Engineers create, improve and protect the environment, they are involved in overseeing large-scale projects from design through to construction and completion.

The staff are constantly seeking to meet new challenges and opportunities within the areas of civil, structural and environmental engineering. Our programmes are research-led, and therefore develop continuously to reflect leading-edge technology and current and emerging needs of the profession.

How you will be taught

There is a continuing demand for civil engineers particularly in the energy and water sectors and the skills of the civil engineer are highly portable in the multi-disciplinary engineering sectors. The latest Institution of Civil Engineers Salary Survey for the UK (2010) indicates that the average total income of its senior members is nearly £100k, while that of recent graduates is £27.5k.

General Requirements

  • SQA Higher/Advanced Higher: BBBB (minimum) - AABB (typical) 
  • GCE A-Level: BEng: BCC (minimum) - BBB (typical) including A-Level mathematics. A science or engineering subject is recommended (physics is preferred) / MEng: ABB at A-Level including mathematics. Physics is recommended
  • BTEC: A relevant BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma with DDM
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma: BEng: 30 points at Higher Level grades 5, 5, 5 to include mathematics. A science or engineering subject is recommended (physics is preferred) / MEng: 32 points at Higher Level grades 6, 5, 5 to include mathematics. Physics is recommended.
