Overview

Film is a unique art form that is driven by technology, the BSC (Hons) Film Production and Interactive Technology course is designed to integrate contemporary production and emerging technologies allowing new possibilities in the creation, distribution and interaction with film content.

You will be able to follow a large variety of career paths and forms of film and content production. On the course, you can produce short fiction or factual films, long form and feature fiction and factual films, location and studio based productions, Interactive VR and AR projects, product design and many other possibilities that you can negotiate through the course.

The Film Production and Interactive Technology (Hons) course at Staffordshire University is developed with input from our industry colleagues and the current practice of our industry active lecturing staff who have a wide range of broadcast and film credits.

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: BSc (Hons) Film Production and Interactive Technology.

Careers

Our graduates have worked for a variety of film and television companies such as Maverick, Lime Pictures, and Raw Cut. Recent productions they have worked on include Dr Strange, Allied, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mr Selfridge, Cold Feet, X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing, and Holby City. Many of our students work in a range of related industries such as audiovisual production for major concert and event venues and streaming or interactive services. A number of our graduates also form start-up companies of their own within the industry.

Programme Structure

  • During the course, you’ll study topics from a variety of film and content production modules. We will cover a wide range of subjects, including film and TV finance, sound, production, film and interactive technology. 
  • You will have access to high-end production kit such as Canon, Sony and Blackmagic HD and 4K digital cinema cameras, DSLR cameras and a wide range of grip equipment. An optional placement year is available after year two. Former students have gained work placements at places such as Envy Post London, Molinare London, and Disney.
  • In the final year, you will combine all of your skills in a major self-directed project. You will choose and dictate what you create as a final show-reel piece which can include feature film production, documentary production, project development, product design and testing or technical skills projects such as cinematography, editing or interactive VR and AR projects.
