With an exciting interface between craft, design and art, our 3D Designer Maker (Jewellery and Fashion Accessories) (Hons) degree at Staffordshire University is ideal if you have a passion for making contemporary jewellery.

You'll get to explore ideas through a broad range of taught craft practice and design processes. There's a strong emphasis on experimentation with materials and contemporary approaches to making innovative objects. And you'll get to experience both studio making and industrial processes.

The creative team of professional makers and technicians will support you throughout. You'll gain practical knowledge and a repertoire of skills, developing your understanding of the designer's essential toolkit as well as contemporary techniques and processes. Workshops cover:

  • Fine Metal
  • Wood
  • Plastics and Resin
  • Ceramics
  • Technical Hub-CAD and Laser Cutting
  • Digital Imaging Skills (to work software packages such as Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator)

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: BA (Hons) 3D Designer Maker (Jewellery and Fashion Accessories).

Graduate Destination

Libby Ward was awarded ‘Best Maker’ at the Great Northern Craft Fair, Manchester.

Jasmine Simpson was voted one of the ‘Top Ten’ makers to watch by Ceramic Review in.

Amy Ridyard was selected to exhibit her work at the Museum of Art & Design in New York.

Faith Shillito won the ‘Best Commercial Design’ as part of a live brief set by Sheffield knife manufacturer Taylor Eye Witness.

Grace Pepper was given the Potclays Award. She has gone on to gain a position at Portmeirion Pottery within the export department.

A number of our students also go on to our award winning MA Ceramics course.

You could gain employment as a designer-maker in industry, or set up your own business.

Programme Structure

  • In your first year, you will develop your specialist knowledge across materials in ceramics, wood, metals ur specialist knowledge across materials in ceramics, wood, metals and plastics. This will enable you to become a more informed contemporary maker and someone who can use specialist skills professionally and effectively, with an emphasis on high class skills in practical making, experimentation and craftsmanship.
  • In your second year, you will develop your own voice choosing one of the three pathways, build independent professional working practices, undertake ‘live’ briefs with companies such as Wedgwood, and take on increasing responsibilities for your own creative journey.
  • In your third year, you’ll consolidate your knowledge and skills to produce your final exhibition pieces. Alongside your studio work, you will gain an insight into design futures/business set-up and branding yourself ready for the world of work.
