Ranch hand, ranch manager, equipment, irrigation, farm inputs sales, customer service or retail manager. Many First Nations communities have ranching operations as part of their economic development arms and have career opportunities ranging from cowboy to land manager to ranch operations manager. In addition, many new people are moving into the ranching industry through succession planning or through buying ranches for the first time.

After the program is full, completed applications will continue to be accepted and placed on a waitlist until the start of the program. Waitlisted applicants will be offered a seat on a first-applied, first-qualified basis should a seat in the program become available before the start of the program.

    The TOEFL iBT ® measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The test has four sections (reading, listening, speaking, and writing), each with a score range of 0-30, for a total score range of 0-120.

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.     The TOEFL®PBT is administered in a paper format and measures your ability to use and understand English in a classroom setting at the college or university level. It accurately measures how well you can listen, read and write in English while performing academic tasks.

General Requirements

  • Grade 11 (or equivalent), grade 12 preferred, or mature student status 
  • Foundations of Mathematics 11, with a minimum C 
  • English Studies 12/English First Peoples 12 with a minimum 67% (or equivalent), or successful completion of the ACCUPLACER assessment (see below) 
  •  BC Highschool Graduation 5. Minimum keyboarding speed of 25 net words per minute (The typing tests costs $20 to write)

Additional Requirements 

  •  A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  •  Access to a reliable Internet source
  • A suitable work placement on a working ranch
