Overview
The Business Economics with Marketing and Politics (Hons) from University of Dundee focuses on economic concepts, theories, and principles. Learn how these are applied to various business activities inside businesses or organisations and across the wider business world.
You’ll develop a strong understanding of the role of marketing in today’s multi-channel environment and how marketing fits into a wider organisational context.
In order to become an effective marketer, and be able to allocate resources and tap into growth opportunities, you need to understand all economic factors relating to target markets, particularly around emerging markets.
Politics confronts the big issues that affect societies the world over. You’ll get an overview of the British political system as well as examining some of the most complex problems faced by humanity and the ideas that underpin them.
Our current teaching includes optional modules on Russian, Irish, and Middle Eastern politics, nations and nationalism, political theories, and on human rights and humanitarian intervention. Topics such as illegal drugs, gender and sexuality, environmental sustainability, and surveillance are also covered.
Teaching
Teaching is through a combination of:
- lectures
- tutorials
- workshops
- statistics sessions
We also offer an annual series of industry guest lectures which you are encouraged to attend.
Some politics modules will include specialised teaching such as trips, a simulation element (European Union politics), or working directly with a human rights advocacy organisation on their campaigning work as part of the curriculum.
Careers
A joint degree such as this is demonstrating that you have a strong interest in working in government, politics, civil service and also that you are interested in working more generally in the business world.
Many of our graduates have also moved into financial planning, investment, insurance, pensions and wider financial roles. We also see a number of graduates following the Chartered Accountancy route.
We've also seen graduates moving into journalism, marketing, data/statistical analysis and more general business roles. Some have also gone into careers in education, at all levels.
