Who is this programme designed for?

This International Year One – Engineering and Physical Sciences programme from ONCAMPUS Coventry  is designed for international students who do not quite have the academic grades and/or English level to start the first year of an undergraduate degree at Coventry University, but have a stronger profile than an IFP student. If you successfully complete the IY1 you can be offered progression to Year 2 of a business, Art and Design, Engineering and Psychology - related undergraduate degree at Coventry University. This programme is set at level 4, and is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree in the UK.

How long will I study for?

Your application will be assessed and you may be offered a 3 or 4 term programme depending on your English level and academic background. 

The duration of the programme is one academic year (nine or twelve months). The year is divided into three or four terms of seven to eight teaching weeks, one reading week, and an examination week. On average, you will undertake 23 (and up to 28) hours of classroom-based study per week including tutorials.

English Language forms up to six hours of your timetable, is compulsory for students who are below the required level for progression, and will be integrated into the teaching of academic subjects as well as being taught separately if you need additional support. Students who are at or above the required English level for progression are likely to follow a reduced timetable.

  • Engineering Science: Statics and Dynamics and Electrical Principles
  • Manufacturing and Materials Technology

  • Engineering Science: Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer
  • Engineering Applications: Workshop Practice incl. Engineering Drawing, workshop skills; CAD
  • Engineering Design: Design Methodology & Marketing with Beam competition
  • Engineering Design: IMech challenge - Design challenge

To study this programme, you will need to have completed high school with an A level equivalent including Maths and Physics grades at least D/50% OR have an Engineering foundation equivalent with 50% pass in Maths and Physics.
