Overview

If you don’t have the right grades to enrol directly on to our BSc (Hons) Chemistry degree, you could opt to start your studies with a foundation year. The extra year is intended to give you the best possible preparation for success on the Chemistry degree. You’ll study introductory modules relevant to the degree whilst developing key skills for academic study.

Accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Chemistry courses provide a depth of practical experience that employers find highly attractive. Possible careers include industrial chemist, pharmaceutical scientist, forensic scientist, biochemist, cosmetic scientist, environmental scientist, medicinal chemist, metallurgist, teaching and lecturing, research and/or development scientist, public analyst, health and safety adviser.

Careers

Chemists are capable of successful careers in a wide range of scientific, business and commercial areas, including food science, pharmaceutical research or development, and environmental monitoring. Graduates of Chemistry (Including foundation year) (Hons) degree at University of South Wales have gained work in public or commercial laboratories, forensic science services and education, while many continue to postgraduate research. The skills you gain from a Chemistry degree are valued in other professions, for example, to train for careers in patent law or accountancy.

    PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. Delivered and marked by computer, it reports on a scale between 10 and 90.

BTEC Extended Diploma Pass Pass Pass or BTEC Diploma Pass Pass in a relevant subject
  • Typical IB Offer
Pass the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum of 80 UCAS tariff points from Higher Levels to include Science or Maths.
  • Typical Access to HE Offer
Pass an Access to HE Diploma in Maths/Science and obtain a minimum of 80 UCAS tariff points
  • Additional Requirements
GCSEs: The University normally requires a minimum 3 GCSEs including Mathematics and English at Grade C/Grade 4 or above, or their equivalent but consideration is given to individual circumstances
