The Information and Communication Technology ‑ Science at University of Tasmania offers units across the complete spectrum of ICT, ranging from non-technical areas such as the nature of information and organisational needs for ICT, through the hardware, software, network and creative technologies which are used to satisfy these needs, to the communication, design, development and management skills needed to create, implement and integrate ICT components.

The degree produces ICT professionalswho are confident and articulate team players, and who are attuned to the needs, methods and attitudes of business and society. The BICT aims to provide ICT graduates with the skills and knowledge to take on appropriate professional positions in industry upon graduation and grow into leadership positions, achieve entrepreneurial ambition, or pursue research and graduate studies in ICT.

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) is a multi-disciplinary degree which offers both variety and flexibility in subject choice and specialisation. It provides an effective entry into employment as skills obtained by science graduates  problem-solving, critical thinking, team work, specialised subject knowledge and understanding  are highly sought after and valued by employers.

Career outcomes

Graduates of the BICT-BSc should expect to have the same career outcomes as identified for the BSc and BICT. Graduates of the combined degree would be particularly valuable to large research organisations.


The BICT degree has been developed in consultation with the Australian Computer Society (ACS), full accreditation can only be received after there have been some graduates. Professional level accreditation of the course will be sought.

Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires qualifications equivalent to the 12th year of schooling in Australia. 

Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies and also meet prerequisite subjects if required.
