Overview

In Anthropology we study the relationships between and within groups of people who are ‘not like us’ – from whichever group of people it is that ‘we’ as researchers might belong. Through comparison we discover the surprising differences in everyday living around the world.

In Archaeology we study the material evidence of the human past – from monument structures like the ceremonial statues of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) to smaller portable artefacts such as posts and stone tools – to better understand our human origins, and societies and environments of the past.

This Anthropology is taught at at University of Otago.

The following students are eligible to apply for online study:

Students living offshore, commencing or returning to undergraduate study in selected programmes
Students living in New Zealand, returning to undergraduate study in selected programmes, who meet certain criteria (for example, having specific health, financial or family reasons for not being able to attend)
