Overview

The Communication Sciences and Disorders - Deaf Studies concentration is intended to prepare students to work in a number of settings (e.g., social services, vocational rehabilitation, education, etc.) with a variety of Deaf and hard of hearing individuals utilizing diverse communication methods, both manual and oral. 

Coursework is designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn the language, education, history, and culture of Deaf individuals in the United States as well as issues that impact the provision of services to this population.Includes all the required coursework of the American Sign Language special endorsement of the Florida Department of Education, which will allow students to become certified to teach American Sign Language within the Florida public school system.

English Language Requirements

General Requirements

  • Complete the online application.
  • Pay the non-refundable US $30 application fee.
  • Send original or certified copies of academic transcripts, mark sheets, grade reports, diplomas or certificates, national standardized examination results, or other academic course work to USF.
  • Send official SAT or ACT scores to USF. If you are submitting ACT scores, you are required to submit scores for the Writing section, per Florida Board of Governors requirements.
  • Request official ACT scores directly from ACT, Inc. Our school code is 0761.
  • Send official IELTS, TOEFL or PTEA scores to USF (only required for students from non-English speaking countries). Note: TOEFL/IELTS scores are valid for two years from the original date of examination.
  • Send a financial statement that shows funding support based on the estimated cost of attendance for one academic year or two semesters (only required if an F-1 or J-1 visa is required).
